  92. -> Important! If you have any difficulties viewing certain picture types
  93. -> (e.g. PCX, PhotoCD, DataTypes, JPeg etc.) directly from CD-ROMs (while viewing
  94. -> the same pictures copied to disk works), you have encountered a CD-ROM file
  95. -> system problem. I have heard of difficulties with several third party file
  96. -> systems. I recommend to use only one of the following CD-ROM file systems:
  97. ->    1) Original AmigaDOS OS3.1 CD-ROM file system
  98. ->    2) AmiCD-File System V1.15 or higher (older versions are probably NOT usable)
  99. ->    3) BabelCDROM File System V1.2 or higher
  100. -> see section "Important" below for more details.
  101.  
  102. For animation formats (HHsYUVSq and animation datatypes) the first frame is shown
  103. (for playback of HHsYUVSq animations you can use my freeware program CyberTVPlayer;
  104.  for creation of such animations you can now use a special saver GIO which is part
  105.  of my UniversalGIO for Photogenics!).
  106.  
  107. Please note: The format "GIF" and LZW compressed "TIF" variants are not
  108. internally supported for legal reasons, but due to the DataType support
  109. loading should be possible if you have a suitable DataType (with a fast
  110. GIF or TIF DataType loading is usually still faster than with many other
  111. viewers which directly support theese formats!).
  112.  
  113. Supported picture file formats for saving:
  114.  
  115. 1) IFF-ILBM 24Bit (compressed and uncompressed)
  116. 2) IFF-DEEP 24Bit (uncompressed)
  117.    This format is used e.g. by TVPaint, XiPaint or Photogenics
  118. 3) JPeg (variable compression rates and optimization)
  119. 4) PPM-P6
  120.    This format is used by the PBM image processing software
  121. 5) QRT
  122. 6) Targa 24Bit (compressed and uncompressed)
  123. 7) HHsXRL TC24 format (compressed lossless and lossy)
  124.    This format is esp. designed for raytracing pictures, which should be
  125.    compressed lossless or with nearly invisible losses. Compression is usually
  126.    better than IFF-ILBM or Targa compression.
  127.  
  128. Highlights of CyberShow:
  129.  
  130. + flexible presentation of your pictures in windows or on screens incl.
  131.   slide show function with transition effects, presentation delay etc.
  132.  
  133. + Fast zooming (magnification upto 1:4 and reduction upto 4:1; use + to zoom
  134.   in and - to zoom out; * to go to standard size) and fast scrolling functions
  135.   (cursor keys or scrollbars)
  136.  
  137. + All loading functions (except JPeg: This software is based in part on the work
  138.   of the independent JPeg Group) have been written in Assembler and optimised for
  139.   extremely high speed. Loading will usually be upto 5 times faster than with
  140.   comparable viewers... An exception to this is the JPeg format, which is
  141.   written in C and based on the usual code of the ind. JPeg group.
  142.  
  143. + Automatic preloading: The next picture is loaded while you view the current
  144.   picture; you can now also scroll or zoom the picture or use other functions
  145.   during preloading of the next picture; this reduces waiting time to a minimum
  146.  
  147. + Can view single files, group of files (supporting patterns) and
  148.   even directory trees (automatic search of subdirectories); multiple
  149.   picture arguments can be passed by CLI, Workbench or selected with file
  150.   requester. Images will be shown in alphabetical order (ordered by complete
  151.   path name).

  170. Using instructions
  171. ==================
  172.  
  173. Configuration: Usually CyberShow will show the pictures in windows directly on
  174.   the default public screen (usually the Workbench). To make use of other
  175.   screens, private screens or to present the pictures as SlideShow etc,
  176.   you can select options as CLI parameter or by Workbench Tooltypes.
  177.   A screenmode or public screen name can also be specified by the
  178.   environment variable "CyberShowScreen":
  179.  
  180.   a) Custom Screen: If you want a screen to be opened for CyberShow you should
  181.      set an environment variable with the screenmode, e.g.:
  182.      SETENV CyberShowScreen "NTSC:HighRes Interlace"
  183.      You can specify all kinds of screenmodes for Amiga screens, emulation
  184.      screens of graphic boards and TrueColor/HighColor screens for Cybergraphics.
  185.      In any case the screen will be opened with the max. depth which is available
  186.      for that mode. Please note that the screenmode name is case sensitive!
  187.      Take a look at the Prefs/Screenmode program's list of screenmode names
  188.      to see what is available. If you specify an unknown screenmode name or
  189.      the specified screenmode can't be used for some reason the program will
  190.      use the default public screen (after an information requester).
  191.  
  192.      Alternatively you can specify a CLI parameter "Screenmode": e.g.
  193.       CyberShow Screenmode "NTSC:HighRes Interlace"
  194.      This parameter will override the ENV: variable as well as a
  195.      PublicScreen parameter.
  196.      This is also available as tooltype for WB start (e.g.
  197.      Screenmode=NTSC:HighRes).
  198.  
  199.   b) Named Public Screens: If you want to make CyberShow use a non-default
  200.      Public Screen, you can also specify this with the ENV: variable, e.g.:
  201.      SETENV CyberShowScreen "*CoolScreen"
  202.      To distinguish between a screenmode and a public screen name the *
  203.      character has to be specified before the screen name. To find out the
  204.      public screen name of your applications, look into their manuals! The
  205.      screen title of the public screens is often NOT the public screen name.
  206.      If the named public screen can't be used (if it is not found or private)
  207.      then the default public screen is used (after an information requester).
  208.  
  209.      Alternatively you can specify a CLI parameter "PublicScreen": e.g.
  210.       CyberShow PublicScreen "CoolScreen"
  211.      This parameter will override the ENV: variable. Please note that the *
  212.      has not to be specified for the CLI parameter. If you also specify a
  213.      Screenmode parameter, the PublicScreen parameter will be ignored.
  214.      This is also available as tooltype for WB start (e.g.
  215.      PublicScreen=CoolScreen).
  216.  
  217.   To save the screenmode or name specification for automatic use after booting,
  218.   just copy it from ENV: to ENVARC: (or use the WB Tooltype).
  219.   If you want to use the program on the default public screen again, just
  220.   SETENV CyberShowScreen "" or delete the variable from ENV: or from ENVARC:
  221.   for permanent effect (or delete the Tooltype).
  222.  
  223. Parameters: CyberShow now accepts multiple picture/path/pattern and
  224.   configuration parameters both from Workbench and CLI. In addition the
  225.   picture window is now an AppWindow in which you can drop picture icons
  226.   or even drawers or disks to view pictures.
  227.  
  228.   a) Workbench usage: To specify pictures, you can multi-select one or several
  229.      pictures or even drawers by holding shift and selecting with the mouse
  230.      before double clicking.
  231.  
  232.      Another method is to make icons for the pictures and specify "CyberShow"
  233.      complete with it's path as default tool.
  234.  
  235.      Other options can be specified as tooltypes in the icon for WB start.
  236.      The options are similair to the CLI options. Take a look at the icon
  237.      to see the available parameters which are enclosed in parentheses to
  238.      make them inactive.
  239.     DefaultPath=path        Provide default path for path/pattern/file
  240.                 requester after startup or for save requester
  241.     Downscale=number        Select downscaling with factor 1:number
  242.                 (number range 1 to 16 supported in increments of 1)
  243.     NonRecursive        Switch off recursive subdirectory search
  244.     Screenmode=name        Select screenmode name for private screen
  245.                 (Overrides ENV:CyberShowScreen)
  246.     PublicScreen=name    Select named public screen
  247.                 (Overrides ENV:CyberShowScreen)
  248.     Icons            Do not ignore .info files. This is only useful if
  249.                 you have some Icon-Datatype and want to take a look
  250.                 at the icons of files. By default, .info files are
  251.                 now completely ignored. Please note that in
  252.                 addition to this option you might have to remove
  253.                 the ~(#?.info) pattern from the file requester if
  254.                 this is used.
  255.     Request            Show file/path/pattern requester after
  256.                 displaying all files
  257.     PresentWindow        Leave window size unchanged between pictures;
  258.                 window will open at screen size; smaller pictures
  259.                 are shown centered in the window; you can still
  260.                 resize the window manually. On TrueColor/HighColor
  261.                 windows transition effects will be used as default.
  262.                 Use Effects or NoEffects to manually control this.
  263.     SlideShow        Show pictures on screen (no window borders); this
  264.                 works best if you select your own Screenmode. On
  265.                 Workbench or Public screens you will still have
  266.                 a depth arrangement bar on default (you can instead
  267.                 select a backdrop window with another option).
  268.                 As there are no scrollbars, you can only scroll
  269.                 with the cursor keys in this mode. The usual menue
  270.                 functions are still available. On TrueColor/HighColor
  271.                 windows transition effects will be used as default.
  272.                 Use Effects or NoEffects to manually control this.
  273.     BackDrop        Backdrop window for SlideShow on WB or Public Screens
  274.     Black            For small pictures fill unused screen or
  275.                 window areas with the foreground pen (usual
  276.                 black) instead of background (usual grey); in
  277.                 SlideShow mode on private screens black is
  278.                 always used and even specifed as background to
  279.                 make presentations better e.g. for Video recording
  280.     Effects            Select transition effects (default for presentation
  281.                 windows and slideshow on true color screens); use
  282.                 this option to get effects in standard mode or on
  283.                 palette oriented screens (2-256 colors).
  284.     NoEffects        Disable transition effects; if you use this option
  285.                 together with the Effects option, the effects will
  286.                 actually be disabled, but the usual palette locking
  287.                 for 2 to 256 color screens will remain active
  288.     Delay=number        Automatically go to next picture after specified
  289.                 number of seconds
  290.     Loop            Start with first picture again after showing last
  291.                 (useful in conjunction with Delay for automatic
  292.                  presentation at shows etc.)
  293.     IgnoreErrors        Do not show requesters for unreadable files;
  294.                 they will instead be quietly ignored
  295.     PartialFiles        Accept partially corrupt files during loading
  296.                 (at least 50% must be loaded correctly; default
  297.                  is to reject all corrupt files; partial loading
  298.                  is not possible for some formats e.g. Datatypes
  299.                  due to technical reasons; the information
  300.                  requester now contains the % of success, which
  301.                  will be less than 100% for corrupt files)
  302.     SlowJPeg        Use slower (but slightly higher quality?) JPeg
  303.                 loading function
  304.  
  305.   b) CLI usage: You can specify multiple pathes/pictures/patterns in the CLI
  306.      command line, e.g.:
  307.       CyberShow ram:#?.jpg tmp:#?.iff "CD1:Photo_CD/Images"
  308.      Picture parameters can be included in " for better compatibility.
  309.      This should work with directory utilites as well (I checked it with DirOpus
  310.      4.12A+: E.g. specify CyberShow {F} as DOS command for your CyberShow button).
  311.      There are many other parameters available as command line options, which are
  312.      usually identical to the Workbench ToolTypes. Type CyberShow ? to get a list
  313.      of parameters. Here are the additional parameters (incl. abbreviations):
  314.     DS=Downscale (number)
  315.     NR=NonRecursive
  316.     SM=Screenmode (name)
  317.     PS=PublicScreen (name)
  318.     Icons
  319.     Request
  320.     PW=PresentWindow
  321.     SL=SlideShow
  322.     BD=BackDrop
  323.     Black
  324.     Effects
  325.     NoEffects
  326.     Delay (number)
  327.     Loop
  328.     IE=IgnoreErrors
  329.     PF=PartialFiles
  330.     SlowJPeg

  333. If you just start CyberShow without any picture parameters, a file/path/pattern
  334. requester appears. With this you can specify a directory (path) with an optional
  335. pattern or select one or multiple pictures (by holding shift during the selection).
  336. You can select a new file/path/pattern by using the "New Directory" menu entry
  337. at a later time (it will be shown automatically after displaying all files
  338. if you select the Request option) or by dropping icons of pictures, drawers
  339. or even disks into the CyberShow window which is now an AppWindow.
  340.  
  341. In any case subdirectories will be searched automatically if you don't restrict
  342. searching by a pattern to one directory or use the NonRecursive option.
  343.  
  344. Default is to load pictures in full size. With the "Scaled-Loading" menue
  345. or Downscale option you can select to load all pictures in reduced size.
  346. For many file formats this downscaled loading will be significantly
  347. faster. Please note that the pictures will be in small form in memory, thus
  348. save or transfer operations will save or transfer the images in small form.
  349. This is different from the zooming functions. If you load a picture
  350. in normal size you can zoom out to get it in reduced size as well, but
  351. then the image remains in original resolution in memory.
  352.  
  353. To show pictures as slideshow instead of windows, it is best to specify
  354. a screenmode as well: E.g.
  355.   cybershow #?.jpg SlideShow ScreenMode "PICCOLOSD64:800x600x16M"
  356. You can also use the slideshow as backdrop e.g. on the WB screen.
  357. SlideShows and PresentWindow presentations will by default use transition
  358. effects on TrueColor/HighColor screens. You can switch them off with
  359. the NoEffects option or select them with Effects for palette oriented
  360. screens or standard viewing (automatically resized window). Please note
  361. that effects on palette oriented screens can be quite slow (due to
  362. this fact some effects are only available on TrueColor/HighColor
  363. screens; while zooming is active, some effects are also disabled
  364. for speed reasons) and that the palette will be locked for all
  365. pictures. This can lead to reduced displaying quality if you have
  366. many pictures with different colors. On TrueColor/HighColor screens such
  367. problems can not occur. For automatic presentations you can now specify
  368. a delay time after which the next picture is selected automatically and
  369. a loop function for endless presentations. You still have full manual
  370. control with Menu functions or keys (use Esc or Quit to exit).
  371.  
  372. To advance to the next picture use the "Next Picture" menu entry
  373. (Shortcut Amiga N), press the space bar or press the close button of the
  374. picture window (the next picture will be selected automatically if you
  375. have specified a number of seconds as a delay time). During displaying the
  376. next picture will already be loaded. You can now scroll or resize the window
  377. or select another function while the next picture is preloaded (due to
  378. technical restrictions of some file formats this is partially not available
  379. if pictures are not stored line by line, e.g. FBM24, ACBM, DataTypes, vertical
  380. PCD images, YUV, VLB, HHsYUVSq; during the color conversion phase you can
  381. still scroll and this phase is often longer than the loading time unless
  382. you load from floppy disk).
  383.  
  384. Scrolling: Scrolling can be performed with cursor keys or the scroll bars
  385.  (scroll bars are not available in slideshow mode). Now you can select
  386.  between different cursor scrolling speeds (use cursor keys with Shift
  387.  for fine scrolling, ALT to scroll upto the border or without other key
  388.  to scroll for one third of the window).
  389.  
  390. Zooming: Since V5.0 you can zoom in and out to magnify or reduce the
  391.  picture; to zoom in press the + key (max. magnification 1:4); to zoom
  392.  out press the - key (max. reduction 4:1); to go back to standard viewing
  393.  (1:1) press the * key. Zooming functions are also available as menu
  394.  entries. Please note that reduced viewing is different from downscaled
  395.  loading; if you load a picture downscaled, it is kept in memory
  396.  in reduced size and transfers or saves will be in reduced size
  397.  as well. If you just zoom out to reduce a picture, it remains
  398.  in memory in it's full resolution. The zoom stage will be kept even
  399.  if you change to the next picture.
  400.  
  401. You can also go back to previous pictures with the "Previous Picture"
  402. menu entry (Shortcut Amiga P) or by pressing the backspace key.
  403.  
  404. If you try to select the next picture (or previous picture) before
  405. automatic preloading has finished, the window title will inform you about
  406. the already loaded part of the picture (in percent).
  407.  
  408. For the currently displayed picture you can get an information requester
  409. by selecting the "Picture Info" menu item (Shortcut Amiga I). It includes
  410. the name, dimensions, file format, file size, file comment and number of
  411. frames (for animations). The file format string often includes the color
  412. depths or other variation informations as well. For pictures loaded with
  413. any DataType, the file type begins with "DTxx" with xx being the color
  414. depth. For animations loaded with DataType the file type begins with "DHxx".
  415. This is followed by the recognition string of the DataType, if available.
  416. For partially loaded files (use option PartialFiles) the information
  417. requester contains in percent the part which is loaded correctly.
  418.  
  419. You can quit the program with the "Quit" menu item or by pressing the Esc
  420. key in the picture window (or screen), by pressing Ctrl-C in the CLI or
  421. sending a Ctrl-C signal to the task.
  422.  
  423. The "About" menu function gives an information requester (which includes
  424. the personal registration information if you are a registered user with
  425. a correctly installed keyfile).
  426.  
  427. Fast direct transfer and saving/conversion (not available in demo version):
  428.  
  429. You can directly transfer the image in full 24Bit quality very fast to
  430. important image processing and painting programs (see transfer menu).
  431. Currently supported applications: ImageFX, XiPaint and ArtEffect/PicoPainter
  432. Unfortunately Photogenics seems to currently have no suitable port to
  433. allow such transfers (at least upto V1.2). I hope this will change in
  434. the future.
  435.  
  436. Transfers should at least be possible to ImageFX 1.5/1.6, ImageFX 2.x,
  437. EGS-ImageFX, XiPaint 3.x, all versions of ArtEffect and PicoPainter 1.3.
  438. For ArtEffect/PicoPainter you can transfer the image into a picture
  439. project window or into a brush.
  440.  
  441. Please note that pictures will always be transferred in their loaded
  442. size. If you have selected the downscaled loading, the pictures will
  443. be transferred in small form.
  444.  
  445. The same restrictions apply to the save functions which can be used to
  446. convert the currently loaded image into one of several formats (see
  447. above for list of supported save formats). All pictures are saved as
  448. 24Bit images. This is not dependent on the screenmode. The size which
  449. has been used for loading will be the size in which it is saved. For
  450. JPeg saving you can select the quality between 50% and 95% in 5% steps

  460. If you have difficulties viewing a picture in one of the supported
  461. file formats (or DataTypes) and you are sure that you have enough
  462. memory left, check the following:
  463.  
  464. a) File systems: Some PD/ShareWare/Commercial add-on or replacement
  465.    file systems (esp. CD-ROM file systems!) are buggy (e.g. they do
  466.    not support some rarely used DOS functions properly). Try to copy
  467.    the picture to a standard device (e.g. RAM:) and to view it from
  468.    there. If this works, you know that your specific file system is
  469.    buggy. I found the following file systems to be usable:
  470.    1) Original AmigaDOS OS3.1 CD-ROM file system
  471.    2) AmiCD-File System V1.15 or higher (older versions are probably NOT usable)
  472.    I also heard that the following works without problems:
  473.    3) BabelCDROM FileSystem V1.2 or higher
  474.    I recommend to only use one of theese CD-ROM file systems.
  475.    Several users e.g. reported problems with "AsimCD-Filesystem 3.0";
  476.    so this seems to be an unsuitable Filesystem (maybe newer versions
  477.    exist which do support all necessary functions). Typical unimplemented
  478.    or wrong functions in filesystems are: NameFromFH (needed for Datatype
  479.    access) and ExamineFH (needed for several formats, e.g. PCX-VGA).
  480.  
  481. b) DataTypes: Some DataTypes are instable and can crash on certain
  482.    pictures with odd dimensions or incomplete pictures. I have no
  483.    influence on this. If you have difficulties with certain DataTypes,
  484.    look out for newer versions.

  502. Shareware modalities

  505. The unregistered demo version of CyberShow has an important restriction:

  507. All pictures will be shown in greyscale only in the demo version!!!

  509. Anyway, I have designed the loading functions so that the speed is the
  510. same as with color loading so that you can check the real speed of my
  511. fast loading functions, but please note: on screens with less than
  512. 15Bit color depths the displaying speed of the greyscale pictures could
  513. be higher than that of color pictures due to the fact that the color pen
  514. allocation is different. I have no influence on this; to see the real
  515. speed, try it on HiColor/TrueColor screens (if you have Cybergraphics),
  516. as no color pens are needed and it makes no difference if a greyscale
  517. or true color image is displayed. If you want to see how the color
  518. allocation works with 2 to 256 colors, take a look at CyberTVPlayer,
  519. my freeware animation player for HHsYUVSq sequences (a sample sequence
  520. is included in the CyberTVPlayer archive). CyberTVPlayer uses the same
  521. color reducing functions as CyberShow. New: Create your own TrueColor
  522. animations with my hhsyuvsq.gio saver for Photogenics (the saver is
  523. part of my UniversalGIO module distribution).

  525. Some other functions are also not available in the demo version (e.g.
  526. fast direct transfer functions, save functions and AppWindow).
